Cardpool was founded by Anson Tsai and Timothy Wong in 2009 on the belief that no gift card should ever go unused.
We created this service to solve the frustrating problem of having unwanted gift cards. While we love getting gift cards from our family, friends, and coworkers, sometimes we end up with an unwanted gift card that we never end up using. Even worse, we know someone else would enjoy these gift cards, but we have no good way of finding them. After talking to our friends about this problem, we realized many people felt the same way and we decided someone had to fix this problem.
We created Cardpool to solve this problem by creating a service where anyone can buy, sell, or trade their gift cards in a safe and secure environment. By gathering all the gift card buyers and sellers from around the world into one place, we think we can create a service that lets everyone end up getting exactly what they want, whether it's a discounted gift card or simply cash.
If you'd like to learn more about how our system works, check out the how it works page. If you have any other questions, comments, or feedback, we would love to hear from you.
Cardpool has been featured by CNN, NBC, ABC, FOX, NPR, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, TechCrunch, LifeHacker, and many others. To learn more, head over to our press page.
Anson Tsai likes great food and great weather. He cofounded Cardpool because he grew tired of holding onto over a dozen unused gift cards. Prior to starting Cardpool, he founded Anywhere.FM, an online music service that was later was acquired by imeem (now part of MySpace). Before that, he was a Program Manager and Software Engineer at Microsoft XBox, where he helped revolutionize entertainment with the launch of the XBox 360. Anson graduated from MIT with a degree in Computer Science and Engineering and hopes one day he will find time to sleep.
Timothy Wong trains kittens and exercises in his spare time. He cofounded Cardpool because of the frustration he felt after getting a huge gift card for returning a suit without the receipt. Before starting Cardpool, Tim was an engineer at Arch Rock, where he helped develop and deploy data-intensive energy monitoring applications. He's also worked on the Visual Studio team at Microsoft and was highly valued for his ability to consume excess birthday cake. Tim graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a degree in Computer Science and hopes to one day bench press twice his weight.
